ENTRIES for the 2017 aQuellé Midmar Mile are now open at www.midmarmile.co.za. The race will take place 11-12 February 2017. For a limited time, an entry will cost you only R165. Ho and Weber bring it home

CHAD Ho has claimed his seventh aQuellé Midmar Mile title in a row, while fellow South African Michelle Weber become the first local woman to emerge victorious in 13 years. Ho was given a solid run for his money by his training partner Matthew Meyer, and it was only in the last 400m that he drew on extra energy reserves and pulled forward to claim victory in a record-breaking time of 17.00. Renowned Midmar veteran returns to our waters

WORLD-renowned swimmer Paul Blackbeard will be swimming the aQuellé Midmar Mile this year. Old-timers will remember that Paul emerged victorious at the Midmar Mile in 1977, putting a two-year run of victory for current race director Wayne Riddin to an end. Paul joined Queens Park Amateur Swimming Club as an 11-year-old in 1969. He proceeded to make history by breaking records in almost every under-16 event. Later, in senior competition, he achieved a similar feat, holding, at one point, 13 South African age-group records. He continued to compete for Natal until 1983.
