P1100429 The 44th aQuellé Midmar Mile, held on 11 and 12 February 2017, has been hailed by many as the best yet. This was due in no small part to the fierce duel carried out in the men’s 14-30 category between defending champion Chad Ho, Olympic champion Ferry Weertman, the USA’s renowned Chip Peterson and the ultimate victor, South Africa’s own Matthew Meyer. Ferry Weertman - Ho's man to beat at the 2017 aQuellé Midmar Mile. The aQuellé Midmar Mile will be celebrating the 44th year in fine style as Olympic Champion in Rio, Ferry Weertman, flies out from the Netherlands to tackle seven-time men’s winner Chad Ho in the World’s Largest Open Water Swimming event at Midmar Dam over the weekend of 11-12 February. Weertman won the final dash during the Olympic Games 10km open water event while Ho ended 10th just five seconds off the pace – and a rematch is offered here to Ho. Race report: Lake Heritage Water Festival 2017

P1100130 The Lake Heritage Water Festival is one of the most anticipated seeding events on the annual aQuellé Midmar Mile calendar, offering two days of swimming action including a 3km swim, a 5km swim, 1 200 metre swims for various age categories and a 600 metre fun swim. 21 and 22 January 2017 did not disappoint. The rain held off, despite the threat of a storm on Saturday afternoon, and a great time was had by swimmers, vendors and organisers.
