8-Mile Club cheque handing over 2011

On Wednesday the 23rd of November 2011, various charities were invited to the Lakeside Café in Pietermaritzburg to receive funds raised at the Midmar Mile this year.

The 8-Mile Club consists of 50 swimmers who swim the Midmar Mile eight times to raise funds for their beneficiaries countrywide. This year over R500,000 was raised through this initiative alone. It is not the only fundraising initiative linked to the Midmar Mile, but is certainly one held close to many hearts.

The evening was marked by good food, great company and an atmosphere of good-will.
Stan Kozlowski was the MC for the evening, and Wayne Riddin did a talk on the Midmar Mile and importance of giving back. He also appealed to the various societies to partner with this event where possible, and was delighted to have them as part of the 8-Mile Club. Charities represented on the evening were Gateway Christian School, Pevensey Place for Cerebral Palsey, Ithemba Lethu AIDS Orphans Home, CHOC, KZN Cystic Fibrosis, KZN Society for the Blind, SA Guide Dogs Association, SPCA, Thandanani Children’s Foundation and Village Safe Haven Childrens Home. These and some other charities received donations from the 8-Mile Club in 2011.
