Meet newcomer to open water swimming – Brent Szurdoki
Brent Szurdoki entered the open water swimming scene with a splash a few weeks ago, winning the men’s 14-30 1 200-metre event at Lake Heritage Water Festival in a cool time of 14:32.
We asked him what he loved most about his new sport. “I’d say my favourite thing about open water swimming is that anyone can do it,” he commented. “It’s open to everyone in the family, and we don’t find that in pool swimming.”
Brent will be taking on his first aQuellé Midmar Mile this year, and while he’s unwilling to put a prediction on his time as a novice in this race, he says he’s hoping to finish among the top swimmers.
In order to make that happen, he does 12 two-hour training sessions at Virgin Active Randburg with his club, Waterborn, every week.
His single goal at the moment is to see how well he does at the aQuellé Midmar Mile, and if you can’t find him in the water, he’s more than likely sleeping in preparation for his next training session.
Good luck Brent – we’ve got our eyes on you.
