Entries to all seeding events in the 2018/19 swimming season leading up to the 46th aQuellé Midmar Mile on 9 and 10 February 2019 are now open. The season consists of three bumper events that are sure to leave swimmers well prepared to take on Midmar Dam in February.

The season splashes off at the Dis-Chem Sun City Swim taking place at the Sun City resort on 20 October.  This event will get started with a 3km swim for men and women, as well as a 1 500 metre event for disabled swimmers. This will be followed by girls of 13 and under and ladies of 31 and over taking on the same 1 500 metre course. Event three is the boys 13 and under and men’s 31 and over 1 500 metre event. After this, women and men between the ages of 14 and 30 will take to the water in their respective 1 500 metre races. The day will finish off with the vita-thion 600 metre fun swim, which is a great introduction to open water swimming for both children and adults.

The second event on the calendar is the Cradle Moon Swim Challenge, which takes place on 25 November 2018 at Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge in Muldersdrift, Johannesburg. This event will consist of a 3km swim and 1km swims for girls 13 and under and women of 31 and over, as well as boys 13 and under and men of 31 and over. Men and women in the 14 to 30 age category share a race at this event, and the day once again concludes with a fun swim — this time of 400 metres in length. The two events which have been held at Cradle Moon in November in previous years have been consolidated into one to bring swimmers an even greater experience.

The final event in the lead-up to the 2019 aQuellé Midmar Mile is the Lake Heritage Water Festival, which will take place on 19 and 20 January 2019. The action will splash off on Saturday with 3km and 5km events and continue on Sunday with 1 200 metre events for men, women, boys and girls in the same categories followed at the previous events. A 600-metre fun swim will conclude the event.

Entering a seeding event has many advantages for swimmers intending to take on the aQuellé Midmar Mile in February. Not only does it give you great practise and experience of swimming in open water, but it also gives race organisers an accurate and up-to-date seeding time for you. This ensures that you will enter the water with swimmers of similar abilities on 9-10 February 2019.
